Heritage Breed
A Heritage Breed is a breed of chicken that is more like the bird that your grandma used to raise. These are your traditional homestead breeds. There are several varieties of Heritage Breed chickens that are raised at Kennedy’s Country Farm. Such as the New Hampshire, Silver Laced Wyandotte and the Leghorn. Right now we are trying out our first batch of New Hampshires being raised for meat. We have been told that while the breasts will not be as big as the Cornish Cross they will have more brown meat and the texture of the chicken is much more complex. The actual flavor of this breed is much better. Heritage Breeds are a slower growing chickens so they get to spend more time on pasture and take twice as long to grow to full size.
